For some people, applying for a new job is exciting. For others, it’s nerve-wracking.
You might be leaving school and looking for your very first opportunity. You might be thinking about a complete career change. You might have worked in places before where you never truly felt supported. Or maybe you simply don’t feel confident yet. That’s more common than people think.
At Premier Logistics Group, we understand that confidence doesn’t always come first. Sometimes confidence comes after someone believes in you. That’s exactly what happened for Ruby.

“I Was the Quietest Person Ever”
When Ruby joined Premier Logistics Group at just 18 years old, she describes herself as: “The quietest person ever.” She was shy, nervous about asking questions and worried about getting things wrong. Like many young people starting their first proper job, she carried a lot of anxiety before even walking through the door. In fact, after agreeing to come in shortly after Christmas, she spent the holiday period worrying about what to expect.
Then she arrived and almost immediately, those fears disappeared. “All the worrying wasn’t worth it. Everyone welcomed me so nicely.”
People introduced themselves properly.
They included her in conversations.
They made her feel part of the team from day one.
Not judged.
Not pressured.
Not thrown in at the deep end.
Just supported.
A Different Kind of Workplace
Logistics can be fast-paced. Warehousing can be demanding. But the atmosphere at Premier is something people notice immediately.
Ruby describes it simply: “Everyone gets along, has a laugh and nobody takes things to heart. It’s a nice place to be.”
Even agency workers coming into the business have commented on how calm the environment feels compared to other places they’ve worked.
That culture hasn’t happened by accident.
At Premier Logistics Group, we believe people do their best work when they feel:
— trusted
— respected
— supported
— listened to
Not micromanaged. Not constantly under pressure. “People are trusted to do the job, not pressured.” That trust makes a huge difference, especially for people still building confidence in themselves.
Growing at a Pace That Works for You
One of the biggest things Ruby talks about is how patient the team were while helping her develop.
Nobody expected her to know everything immediately. Instead, she was encouraged step-by-step. As her confidence grew, so did her responsibilities.
She learned new warehouse skills, trained on equipment like PTT machines and H-Lock systems, and gradually became more independent in her role.
But importantly, it never felt forced. “You’re encouraged to do the best you can. People say, ‘We believe you can do this, would you like to learn?'”
That approach matters because development looks different for everyone. Some people arrive full of confidence. Others need time.
Some need reassurance.
Some simply need somebody patient enough to give them a chance.
At Premier, people are developed properly and at a pace that works for them.
What Happens When Someone Believes in You
A few months after joining, Ruby realised something had changed.
She wasn’t the nervous new starter anymore.
She had become someone others could rely on.
Today, when new people join, management will often ask Ruby to help show them the ropes to walk alongside them through those early days in the same way others once helped her. “When I’m asked to help new people, that’s when I know people believe in me.”
That sentence captures something important about the culture here.
People don’t just work alongside each other. They build each other up and often, the confidence people gain at Premier stretches far beyond the workplace itself. “I’ve realised there could be so much more than I thought.”
Maybe You’re Nervous Too
If you’re reading this and feeling unsure about applying somewhere new, you’re not alone.
Many of the people thriving at Premier today once felt exactly the same.
You do not need to:
— have everything figured out
— know the industry inside out
— be the loudest person in the room
— arrive with years of experience
What matters most is attitude, willingness to learn and being part of the team.
Whether you’re looking for:
— your first job
— a fresh start
— a long-term career
— stability
— progression
— a more supportive workplace
…there’s a place for you here.
Male or female. Young or experienced.
Warehouse, driving, customer services, transport, marketing, sales, accounting, mechanics or operations.
There are opportunities across the entire group for people willing to grow.
A Growing Business Built Around People
Premier Logistics Group has grown into a major operation over the last 20+ years:
— 110 HGVs ready to move when volumes surge
— 300 trailers keeping freight flowing without delay
— 330,000 sq ft of warehousing
— 25,000 pallet spaces
— 5 operating sites
— 220+ people across the group
But despite that growth, one thing has stayed the same:
The culture.
Support matters here.
Teamwork matters here.
People matter here.
As Ruby puts it: “It feels like one big family.”
Come and Have a Look
That’s all Ruby was asked to do in the beginning.
Come and have a look. And it changed everything.
If you’re considering a future with Premier Logistics Group, we’d love to show you what makes this place different because sometimes all somebody needs is an opportunity and people willing to believe in them.
